Ben Nevis towering over Fort William Caledonian Canal

Fort William is the largest town in the Highlands of Scotland (Inverness was granted City status for the millennium), and is the nearest town to where you will do your expedition. The fort was originally built in 1690, and named after William of Orange. There is a Morrison's supermarket built on the site of the fort now. The town is an odd mix of outdoor shops, tourist shops, charity shops and a gun shop! Oh, there are a few pubs and a McDonald's there too.

We visit Fort William on the day before the expedition, giving you the opportunity to stock up on last minute snacks and other essentials for your trip. You may choose to return there on the rest day after the expedition as the McDonalds will still be there, and there is a sports complex containing a bowling alley, pool table and various arcade games.
